The NRA Personal Protection In The Home course builds in students the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding citizen's right to self-defense.

 

In this course, participants learn to use a defensive or flash sight picture, to fire both single shots and aimed pairs from various shooting positions , to shoot using a center-of-mass hold, to effectively use cover and concealment, and to employ point-shooting and multiple target engagement techniques. Also covered are techniques for improving awareness and promoting mental preparation, methods of enhancing home safety without a firearm, and the legal aspects of the use of deadly force in self-defense.
